On December 2, 2024, the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), in collaboration with the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Climate Change (IMHEN), VinUniversity (VinUni), and the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), conducted a short-term course on Artificial Intelligence for Climate Change.

The course gathered students specializing in Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Meteorology, and Aquaculture from prominent universities in Hanoi.

Throughout the course, lectures delivered by Professors and Ph.D. holders from major Vietnamese Universities, including the National Economics University, Thuyloi University, and Can Tho University, focused on how AI technologies can be applied to address various environmental challenges related to climate change. The sessions also highlighted the application of mathematics in areas such as:

  • Developing hydrological, hydraulic, and flood models (case study of Nhật Lệ River)
  • Using machine learning methods to build water level prediction models for early flood warning and damage mitigation
  • Impact of climate change on fisheries (case study of Sóc Trăng Province)
