On 2nd February 2026, the SIMPLE project showcased the OZD (Opération Zéro Déchet – Zero Waste Operation) Virtual Reality (VR) game at the Open Day of Thuyloi University. The event welcomed around 1,000 high school students from northern Vietnam.
Students from Hoàng Long High School (Hà Nội), Lê Lợi High School and Lê Hoàn High School (Thanh Hóa), Nguyễn Huệ High School (Lào Cai), and Nguyễn Văn Cừ High School (Bắc Ninh), along with university students attending the Open Day, experienced the OZD VR demonstration with great enthusiasm. For many of them, this was their first time engaging in an immersive VR game focused on waste sorting, making the experience both relatable and engaging. Alongside the students, parents also expressed curiosity about how immersive technologies can support learning.

About Opération Zéro Déchet – Zero Waste Operation
The OZD VR game was developed under the ÉVEIL project, which combines scientific discovery and French language learning through an immersive virtual reality module titled Opération Zéro Déchet. In the game, students are immersed in a fictional village where they interact with local inhabitants, observe the consequences of pollution, and take part in waste collection and sorting activities, encouraging both environmental awareness and active learning.
Thanks to continuous improvements in user experience design and visual elements, the SIMPLE team has developed a fully immersive in-headset experience, allowing users to easily follow instructions and interact independently with the game’s characters.

The Open Day provided an important opportunity for the SIMPLE project, through ACROSS Joint Laboratory (A Joint Laboratory established by the French Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD)/ UMMISCO, Thuy Loi University), to accompany Thuyloi University in its student enrollment efforts. By engaging directly with high school students, SIMPLE showcased its educational VR games while inspiring young learners to explore environmental issues, sustainability, and the potential of virtual reality as a tool for education and awareness-raising.
